Are there others who ponder upon those things in life that are, to all intent and purpose, of little use in the world other than to those who wish to understand, to break-down, to quantify; are we, the modern, civilised and advanced of peoples the victims of all whom we look up to as the makers of this modern world, electricity, the telephone, the fabrics that make us a modern society are the very things that we regard as 'essential to life', the things that bring us the most sufferings when they are lost.
Had we never had them at our disposal the world would be a very different place, would we have evolved beyond that which we now regard as 'third world', the primitives of modern times, would deforestation be an issue, wind farms an inconvenience, the mobile phones that we all carry, perhaps it is the abuse of modern technologies that will be our downfall.
I have travelled much of the world and always found the most cheerful, happy and hardworking individuals to come from some of the poorest regions of the world, the slums of Calcutta, the Bedouins of the desert regions, or, more close to home, our own disadvantaged individuals that lack little of what the world generally takes for granted.
who could survive without the modern conveniences other than the 'survivors' of the world. what is it that makes a person a survivor? physical strength, good looks, high levels of intelligence, doubtful, for a person to survive requires a personal and inner strength borne of Faith, it is not that a Faith can keep you out of trouble but for sure, it is a faith that is needed to exit from the other side, not only as a survivor but as a stronger person.
Art is about more than being able to bash a piece of stone into a beautiful shape, it is more than placing paint, ink or marks down on paper, it is more than research even for even with research there must be 'an understanding', an understanding, not only of the materials one works with but an understanding of life itself, I often wonder why it is that great Anthropologists never become great artists excepting Da Vinci and a few others, perhaps there just is not enough years in a humans life to understand life itself as to bring ones demise before art can even be reached.
Have I, by having achieved an understanding of mankind in its rawest sense, achieved the seemingly impossible in finding the time, still, to be an artist, are there sufficient years in my lifetime to continue to expose my own weaknesses and strengths to mirror that of human kind, their frailties, insecurities, their joys and fancies sufficiently to become a great artist in my life time........... I dont think so but I will die trying. It was said by someone somewhere, (dont ask me I'm rubbish at names!)

To be a good artist one must practice ones entire life, to become a great one,,,,,,,,,requires a little longer.
